She continues the “procrasti” baking series with Chef Salha who teaches her how to bake a marble cake which has become popular to make in the Middle East.

Tip: Marble cake is fast and simple to bake and will impress your kids, says Chef Salha.

Marble Cake Recipe

2 cups cake pastry or all purpose flour (or more as needed)
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cup of cooking oil
4 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups of orange juice (or your favourite juice)
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or cardamom or any spice you think would add to the flavour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or melted chocolate (or add or as little or as much as you like)

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
-Grease and flour a bread pan and a muffin tin.
-Place baking powder, sugar, eggs and vanilla together in a large mixing bowl
-Mix ingredients well
-Add oil and mix again
-Add juice and mix again
-Add cinnamon or cardamom and mix again
-Add flour gradually and mix. Keep adding flour until the consistency is smooth and thick (not runny)
-Reserve 1/2 cup batter and put to the side
-Pour the rest of the batter half way into the muffin cups
-Pour the rest of the batter half way into the bread pan
-Stir in the cocoa or chocolate into the 1/2 cup reserved batter.
-Drop spoonfuls over top of white batter in the muffin tin cups.
– Pour into the middle of the batter in the bread pan
– Option: Using a knife, swirl the cocoa batter into the white batter if you want the two colours to look like marble
– Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until an inserted wooden pick comes out clean.
– Take your baked goodies out on a rack to cool
– Enjoy!
